PACBI x Cipher

Cipher Press joins with many writers, publishers and bookshops in endorsing the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI).

In endorsing, we're committing to boycott all Israeli cultural institutions, regardless of funding, unless they:

1. End their complicity in violating Palestinian rights, including through discriminatory policies and practices or by whitewashing and justifying Israel's occupation, apartheid or genocide

and

2. Publicly recognize the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people as enshrined in international law.

Initiated in 2004, PACBI is a founding member of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement’s National Committee. It aims to draw a line between culture workers and the actions of governments funding and endorsing the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by Israel. PACBI is aimed at institutions and does not target individuals. PACBI is committed to freedom of expression as stipulated in the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and rejects, on principle, boycotts of individuals based on their opinion or identity (such as citizenship, race, gender, or religion).

We see no other interpretation of what is happening in Gaza than an ongoing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians. We call upon an end of arms sales to Israel and, as a publisher, use our platform to speak out against the suppression of Palestinian voices.

We commit to this boycott understanding the material impact it has in the struggle for Palestinian liberation. We know that Israeli academic and cultural institutions play a key role in normalising the Zionist entity and its genocidal regime of occupation, settler-colonialism, and apartheid.
